Dallas John

Dallas John (b. 1945, Illinois) is an American serigraph artist based in Denver. Trained as a geographer and regional planner (University of Denver; University of North Carolina), he worked as an urban and transit planner in New York and Berkeley before turning to commercial silkscreening and developing a meticulous serigraphic style noted for its color, texture, and perspective. His late-1970s surrealist limited-edition serigraphs include a 'trucker' series with titles such as Wasserbahn (1979) and Morada No Ceu. I found these while looking for something else. I got three to start and enjoyed them so much that I went after as many of his truck portraits as I could find. They are non-trivial serigraph screen prints — possibly dozens of layers of color — and they feature trucks in heroic situations. I like to imagine that Dallas John loved trucks enough to make these, and to make them the hero of his artwork.
