Description
Rectangles Noir Sur Fond Noir (“Black Rectangles on Black Background”) demonstrates Vera Molnár’s interest in the perceptual possibilities of minimal variation within tightly controlled systems. Using black rectangular forms set against a similarly dark ground, the work operates through subtle shifts in tone, density, and spatial relationships rather than overt contrast. The near-monochromatic composition invites close viewing, as patterns emerge gradually through repetition and slight irregularity. Characteristic of Molnár’s generative approach, the piece transforms a simple geometric structure into a nuanced study of rhythm, perception, and the delicate balance between order and disruption.
When Wolf Lieser told me he had two black-on-black works that had never sold, I said sign me up — this is one of the pair. A digital image doesn't do it justice.
