Description
One of a pair of unique generative plotter portraits of Vincent van Gogh — the left sheet of the pair — made around 1988 and shown that year in "Artist's Images: Images of Artists by Artists" at the Security Pacific Gallery, Los Angeles, and the Nevada Institute of Contemporary Art, Reno. Stepped rectilinear linework — pure Nake vocabulary bent to portraiture — densifies into Van Gogh's face, which resolves only at a distance; each drawing in the series samples a different portrait from the same coded space, which is why the pair belongs together. Ink on kraft paper, 31.5 × 24 inches, stamped © KAMRAN MOOJEDI. No other example from the Van Gogh series is traced in public or private hands. I love these portraits: the character of the subject shines through the abstraction. Bought as a pair in June 2026; its sibling is CA.2026.236.
