Description
Komorebi — Japanese for sunlight filtering through leaves — is one of the titled works in Kröhnert's Colo(u)r Fields series, abstract "algorithmic" color studies probing what she calls the tension between order and randomness. A Grasshopper-generated grid of 2,583 six-millimeter cells is filled, cell by cell, with zero to ten strokes of cyan, magenta, yellow, or black acrylic ink, plotted on her self-built AxiDraw-style machine on Seawhite of Brighton 240 gsm Bristol board in A3 landscape. Gradient direction, line density, shuffle, and a random seed govern each composition — changing the seed makes every plot in the limited set unique — and the generating parameters are plotted along the bottom edge of the sheet, a caption written by the machine that drew it.
