Description
The Crab Nebula is the still-expanding wreckage of the supernova of 1054, a blast bright enough that Chinese astronomers tracked it in daylight. Kröhnert's plot of it — documented on her site as a unique piece, not an edition — was built dot by dot from telescope imagery processed through StippleGen and Grasshopper, then drawn by her self-built plotter in acrylic and metallic gel inks on a square black sheet, captioned and dated 09/2020. The stippled metallic surface shifts from subtle to glowing as light and viewing angle change through the day. It came to the collection alongside her Pillars of Creation plot of the Eagle Nebula.

Daniela Kröhnert invoice 20-001, Vienna, 14 September 2020, covers four pen plots: "Pillars of Creation" Eagle Nebula #2/5, "Magic Mountain" Carina Nebula #1/5, Lagoon Nebula #1/5, and a fourth Eagle Nebula included at no charge. The free fourth plot is listed on the invoice as "Eagle Nebula", while this record is titled Crab Nebula — the two do not agree, and the sheet itself should settle which nebula it is.
