Notes

From the 端山貢明アーカイブ (Hayama Kōmei Archive), item 126295 in the 音楽(楽譜) (scores) category, registered 2023-12-04: https://d-commons.net/hayama/?c=&p=126295. Published by the 端山貢明アーカイブプロジェクト (Hayama Kōmei Archive Project), directed by 前川道博 (Michihiro Maekawa) of Nagano University, on the D-Commons platform, and licensed CC BY (表示). The source documents come from the 端山文庫, the papers kept in Hayama's laboratory at Tohoku University of Art and Design, digitised by the project with the agreement of his family; his autograph scores were given to the University History Archives of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2026. Source: Autograph manuscript score, 端山貢明 Collection; 43 pages. The larger of the two untitled scores the archive associates with 《曲舞》 (Kusemai), catalogued as number 50 and running to forty-three pages. The notation is graphic and time-ruled: horizontal lines carrying a sustained 4F sempre, entries marked as points along a numbered time axis, and instrument groups bracketed in the left margin and numbered with roman numerals for the separate players. The instrument lists are written in a mixture of scripts and languages, naming cowbells, timpani, maracas, marimba, triangle, bongo, glockenspiel, gran cassa, tom-tom, antique cymbal, wood block, finger cymbals and several sizes of Japanese drum. As with its companion, the identification with Kusemai, Hayama's last composition and the work in which his percussion writing and his tape work meet, is the archive's inference and not a title on the page. Noted: Untitled and undated; the connection to Kusemai is the archive's inference.
