Notes
From the 端山貢明アーカイブ (Hayama Kōmei Archive), item 9848 in the 略歴・業績 category, registered 2022-09-29: https://d-commons.net/hayama/?c=&p=9848. Published by the 端山貢明アーカイブプロジェクト (Hayama Kōmei Archive Project), directed by 前川道博 (Michihiro Maekawa) of Nagano University, on the D-Commons platform, and licensed CC BY (表示). The source documents come from the 端山文庫, the papers kept in Hayama's laboratory at Tohoku University of Art and Design, digitised by the project with the agreement of his family; his autograph scores were given to the University History Archives of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2026. Source: The 端山貢明アーカイブ (Hayama Kōmei Archive) biography record, illustrated with a single undated colour photograph of Hayama teaching. The archive publishes this item as 1 separate page scan rather than as a PDF; the download here was assembled from those scans in page order, each taken at the higher of the two resolutions the archive serves. The archive's profile entry for Hayama. The PDF itself holds one undated colour photograph: an elderly Hayama, in a dark suit with a clip-on name badge and a lapel microphone, stands at a green blackboard and gestures with his open left hand towards the chalked formula F = G m1 m2 / r-squared — Newton's law of universal gravitation. A sheet of paper lies on the lectern below him. No text appears on the sheet; the sitter is clearly lecturing, which fits the teaching years at Tohoku University of Art and Design rather than any musical occasion. The biographical text is carried by the archive's catalogue record. It reads: born in Tokyo in 1932; graduated from the composition department of the music faculty of the Tokyo University of the Arts; went to France as a French government scholarship student, studied under Olivier Messiaen and graduated from the Paris Conservatoire in 1959. Back in Japan he continued to compose while beginning research and development into expression by computer as a new medium answering to the present age. In 1972 he founded the Computer Art Center and in 1974 the Social Dynamics Research Institute. In 1993 he became a professor at Tohoku University of Art and Design, teaching information environment studies, and was later professor emeritus there. He died in 2021. The record is the archive's own condensed account of the whole career, and it is the text against which the concert papers in this group should be read. People named: 端山貢明 (Hayama Kōmei), オリヴィエ・メシアン (Olivier Messiaen). Noted: The photograph carries no date, place or photographer; the lecture-room setting suggests the Tohoku University of Art and Design years (1993 onwards) but this is not stated. The year recorded here, 2022, is the year the archive registered the profile; the photograph itself is undated.
