Notes
From the 端山貢明アーカイブ (Hayama Kōmei Archive), item 9888 in the アーカイブプロジェクト category, registered 2022-10-02: https://d-commons.net/hayama/?c=&p=9888. Published by the 端山貢明アーカイブプロジェクト (Hayama Kōmei Archive Project), directed by 前川道博 (Michihiro Maekawa) of Nagano University, on the D-Commons platform, and licensed CC BY (表示). The source documents come from the 端山文庫, the papers kept in Hayama's laboratory at Tohoku University of Art and Design, digitised by the project with the agreement of his family; his autograph scores were given to the University History Archives of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2026. Source: A 27-slide presentation deck by 前川道博 (Maekawa Michihiro), Faculty of Business and Informatics, Nagano University, headed 長野大学前川道博研究室 and dated 2021年6月21日; used to brief his seminar students. Slides 1 and 2 are identical title pages.. Dated: presented 21 June 2021. The archive publishes this item as 27 separate page scans rather than as a PDF; the download here was assembled from those scans in page order, each taken at the higher of the two resolutions the archive serves. The founding document of the archive these fifteen items come from, and the best source on how it was made. Maekawa opens with who Hayama was — born 28 April 1932 in Tokyo, died 11 May 2021 aged 89 — and gives a compact career: 1955 graduation in composition from the Tokyo University of the Arts, study in Paris under Olivier Messiaen as a French government scholar, graduation from the Paris Conservatoire in 1959, then research into computer-based expression, the Computer Art Center (コンピュータ・アート・センター) in 1972, the Social Dynamics Institute (ソシアルダイナミクス研究所) in 1974, a chair in information environment studies (情報環境学) at Tohoku University of Art & Design from 1993, emeritus status in 2000. The project's aim is to recycle Hayama's work and knowledge so it can serve the building of a future society. The plan runs over two academic years: 2020 for survey, digitisation, a list of his output, assembling a team and applying to the Agency for Cultural Affairs for a grant; 2021 for building and publishing the archive. The architecture is explicit — a public web archive for what can be released, an internal working site for material under study, physical holdings kept provisionally in Maekawa's laboratory and home, most originals discarded once digitised, musical papers earmarked for the Archives of Modern Japanese Music. The rest is operational and frank about method. The holdings were confirmed in a Diversity Media warehouse in Yamagata on 28 February 2020; 85 boxes were sorted there on 29–30 May 2021 with the NPO Yamagata1, and seven moved to Nagano University from 7 June. Paper is scanned on a ScanSnap; video and cassette tape are captured through their players; files go to the server by WinSCP and listings are generated by program. The trial site is shown at mmdb.net/hayama/ with nine entries. The closing slide sets the work ahead: digitise the backlog, publish as rights clear, and offer the whole as a model for regional digital archives. Contents as the document gives them: 端山貢明(はやま・こうめい)氏とは (Who Hayama Kōmei was) · 端山貢明デジタルアーカイブプロジェクト (The digital archive project: aim, plan, organisation) · 端山貢明デジタルアーカイブ構成 (Structure of the digital archive) · 端山貢明プロフィール (Hayama's profile) · 知識循環の基礎概念 HRDと学習支援環境の概念・モデル提起 (Knowledge circulation: HRD and the learning-support environment) · 端山貢明メディア論の入門記事「[1998]地域づくりはまずインナーネットから」 (An introduction to his media theory) · 試行公開「端山貢明アーカイブ」 (The trial public archive) · 山形のダイバーシティメディア倉庫の端山貢明さん資料存在を確認 2020/02/28 (Holdings confirmed in the Yamagata warehouse) · NPO Yamagata1の御協力により荷物85箱を仕分け整理 2021/05/29-30 (Sorting 85 boxes) · 長野大学に7箱移送、調査始める 前川研究室保管 2021/06/07〜 (Seven boxes moved to Nagano University) · 資料デジタル化 ばらけた紙or自炊 文書スキャナScansnapでスキャン (Digitising paper) · 多様なデータ形式のアーカイブ化 (Archiving diverse data formats) · 作業用アーカイブサイトを作成/作業用アーカイブサイトの運用 (Building and running the working archive site) · 当面の作業 (Immediate work ahead). People named: 端山貢明 (Hayama Kōmei), 前川道博 (Maekawa Michihiro), オリヴィエ・メシアン (Olivier Messiaen). Noted: Pages read for this summary: 1–11, 13, 17, 19, 22, 24, 25 and 27 of 27. The unread slides (12, 14–16, 18, 20–21, 23, 26) appear from their neighbours to be further photographs of the sorting and scanning work rather than new argument. The contents list is assembled from the slide titles actually read and is therefore not the deck's complete running order. Slides 1 and 2 are byte-identical. That the warehouse holdings were the 端山文庫 left with Cable Television Yamagata (now Diversity Media) after Hayama retired comes from the archive's catalogue note rather than from the slides read.
