From the 端山貢明アーカイブ (Hayama Kōmei Archive), item 9944 in the 未設定 category, registered 2022-10-03: https://d-commons.net/hayama/?c=&p=9944. Published by the 端山貢明アーカイブプロジェクト (Hayama Kōmei Archive Project), directed by 前川道博 (Michihiro Maekawa) of Nagano University, on the D-Commons platform, and licensed CC BY (表示). The source documents come from the 端山文庫, the papers kept in Hayama's laboratory at Tohoku University of Art and Design, digitised by the project with the agreement of his family; his autograph scores were given to the University History Archives of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2026. Source: Japanese Society for Contemporary Music (日本現代音楽協会); Yamaha Hall (山葉ホール), Tokyo. Dated: Friday 14 December 1956, 6:30 p.m.. The archive publishes this item as 1 separate page scan rather than as a PDF; the download here was assembled from those scans in page order, each taken at the higher of the two resolutions the archive serves. A single-sheet handbill for the Japanese Society for Contemporary Music's 1956 concert of members' works at Yamaha Hall. Hayama's クラリネットとピアノのための二楽章 (Two Movements for clarinet and piano) stood second of six pieces and was played by the clarinettist Kitazume Toshiyo with the composer himself at the piano. The rest of the bill was a roll-call of the generation then establishing itself: Yuyama Akira's Piano Sonata (Torii Reiko, piano); Mayuzumi Toshirō's Sextet, played by members of the NHK orchestra; Yashiro Akio's String Quartet and Abe Kōmei's String Quartet No. 9, both given by the Rameau String Quartet; and Mamiya Michio's Piano Sonata, whose pianist was still unannounced when the sheet was printed. All seats were reserved at 250 yen and were on advance sale through the city's ticket agencies. The handbill is the record of one of Hayama's very few chamber works from his student years and immediately after — a year after the Viola Concerto and the Art Festival prize, and the year he graduated from the composition department of the Tokyo University of the Arts — and the only document in this group in which he appears as a performer of his own music. The piece is not described as a premiere on the sheet, and no movement titles or tempo markings are given. Contents as the document gives them: 1 湯山昭:ピアノ・ソナタ (Yuyama Akira: Piano Sonata) — ピアノ 鳥井怜子 · 2 端山貢明:クラリネットとピアノのための二楽章 (Hayama Kōmei: Two Movements for clarinet and piano) — クラリネット 北爪利世、ピアノ 作曲者 (the composer) · 3 黛敏郎:六重奏曲 (Mayuzumi Toshirō: Sextet) — NHK管弦楽団員 · 4 矢代秋雄:弦楽四重奏曲 (Yashiro Akio: String Quartet) — ラモー弦楽四重奏団 · 5 間宮芳生:ピアノ・ソナタ (Mamiya Michio: Piano Sonata) — ピアノ(未定) · 6 安部幸明:弦楽四重奏曲 第九番 (Abe Kōmei: String Quartet No. 9) — ラモー弦楽四重奏団. People named: 端山貢明 (Hayama Kōmei, composer and pianist), 北爪利世 (Kitazume Toshiyo, clarinet), 湯山昭 (Yuyama Akira), 鳥井怜子 (Torii Reiko, piano), 黛敏郎 (Mayuzumi Toshirō), 矢代秋雄 (Yashiro Akio), 間宮芳生 (Mamiya Michio), 安部幸明 (Abe Kōmei). Noted: The archive's description dates this concert 1955/12/14; the handbill is headed 1956年日本現代音楽協会作品演奏会 and gives 12月14日(金), and 14 December fell on a Friday in 1956, not 1955. The 1956 date has been followed here. 北爪利世 is read Kitazume Toshiyo from the characters; no reading is given on the sheet.
