Description
A 1983 drawing composed autonomously by AARON, the artificial-intelligence drawing program Harold Cohen developed from around 1970, and rendered on paper by one of Cohen's computer-driven pen plotters. It was made during AARON's breakout year of museum drawing performances — Arnolfini in Bristol, National Museum of Wales, and Brooklyn Museum all hosted Cohen's machines in 1983 — when each sheet emerged as a unique, unrepeatable composition rather than a print. Drawings of this period show AARON's signature early-1980s vocabulary: freehand-looking black lines forming closed, quasi-organic shapes that hover between abstraction and representation.
