Description
One of the lettered "Visions" pen-plotter drawings Verostko made in 2000, a family of one-of-a-kind algorithmic improvisations inspired by the medieval mystic Hildegard of Bingen, whose prophetic Scivias recorded twenty-six visions; related sheets lettered C, G, and L are documented in the Digital Art Museum archive. Verostko generated each drawing with Hodos, software he wrote himself in BASIC with DMPL plotter commands, driving a multi-pen plotter that draws thousands of individual strokes in pigmented ink on rag paper. A former Benedictine monk and co-founder of the Algorists, Verostko offered these arrays of improvisation as invitations to meditation — each sheet "one more improvisation in the seemingly countless array of possibles."
