From Wander's Rubber Band Folds series (2021), this work poses a deceptively simple combinatorial question: how many distinct ways can a closed loop be folded with N bends? Writing software to exhaustively enumerate the possibilities — one solution for a single bend, swelling to 3,482 by seven — Wander renders every valid configuration in orderly plotted rows, the complete solution space becoming the image itself. The piece exemplifies his practice of enumerative art, in which nothing is left to random sampling: the work is the whole answer.
