Description
In 1985 Andy Warhol sat down at a Commodore Amiga 1000 and made a handful of digital images that then sat trapped on floppy disks for three decades — a Carnegie Mellon team recovered them in 2014, among them a file named marilyn1.pic. Leingruber's marilyn1.gif answers that file: his 2022–2025 project to recreate the lost Marilyn, printed here in 2023. "An attempt to recreate a lost 1985 Amiga drawing by Andy Warhol," as he puts it — restoration, forgery, and homage collapsed into one act. Tobi was obsessed with this Marilyn for years, working for ages to assemble the pixels by hand.
