Tobi Leingruber

Tobias Leingruber, who works as tbx, is a sharp thinker and I love everything he does. We first met in Berlin in 2008, sharing a friend's apartment, and he later came through NYC Resistor to give a talk about his pirate browser plugins — early versions of what became his signature: art that pokes platforms exactly where they deserve it. A German artist and media activist, now in Munich, and a fellow of the Free Art & Technology (F.A.T.) Lab, his Facebook Identity Bureau (2012) issued physical Facebook ID cards from a Berlin storefront until Facebook's lawyers took notice; his work has shown at Ars Electronica, transmediale, and ZKM, which mounted "Choose Your Filter!" in 2025. Marilyn.gif (2022–2025) is his attempt to recreate a lost 1985 Amiga drawing by Andy Warhol — pixel archaeology as fan letter.
