Theresa-Marie Rhyne

Theresa-Marie Rhyne has been making digital pictures since the first Apple era — her 1985 Lisa color studies predate most people's first mouse click. Trained as a civil engineer at Stanford, she built a career in scientific visualization: she founded the US EPA's Scientific Visualization Center in the 1990s (working as a Lockheed Martin contractor) and the Center for Visualization and Analytics at NC State in the 2000s, wrote the book on color for data — Applying Color Theory to Digital Media and Visualization (2016; second edition 2025) — and has been a fixture of the IEEE Computer Society and ACM SIGGRAPH for decades. She makes digital media and collage art from Durham, North Carolina.
