Edward Zajec

Edward Zajec (1938–2018) was drawing with computers in 1968, when almost nobody was: a Trieste-born Slovene who trained in painting in Ljubljana, took his MFA at Ohio University, and started programming art while teaching at Carleton College — in time to show at Zagreb's legendary Tendencije 4, "Computers and Visual Research." Back in Trieste through the seventies he built the TVC cube variations in FORTRAN with Matjaž Hmeljak at the university's computer center; from 1980 he founded and ran the computer graphics lab at Syracuse University, retiring emeritus in 2008. His RAM plots came off a ComPlot drum plotter driven by an IBM 1620 — first-generation machine drawing, from the first generation to do it.
