The Bre Pettis Collection of Computer Art

Art Ex Machina

Published by Gilles Gheerbrant Éditeur, Montréal, 1972: six original computer-art serigraphs by Manuel Barbadillo, Hiroshi Kawano, Kenneth Knowlton, Manfred Mohr, Frieder Nake and Georg Nees, with a statement by each artist and a text by Abraham A. Moles, hand-printed by Pierre Foisy in an edition of 200. It was the first portfolio to offer computer-generated images to the art market as signed original prints, and its print quality did as much as Moles's essay to argue that this was art. The collection holds copy 28, in its black slipcase lettered in blue.
