Presentation given at the Generative Art Summit, Akademie der Künste Berlin, 3 July 2024; this text is the authors' update of 19 September 2024. Fleischmann and Strauss co-founded ART+COM in Berlin and later ran the MARS Exploratory Media Lab. The paper argues their practice diverged from predetermined generative systems toward interactivity and audience participation, working through Home of the Brain (1990, Golden Nica at Prix Ars Electronica 1992), Berlin-Cyber City, Between 0/1, Genetic Modification, and Energy Passages. They first met Herbert W. Franke in 1988; the summit was his foundation's. 10 pp.
