Description
Robert Mallary (1917–1997), the American sculptor who became a pioneer of computer art when he generated his 1968 Quad sculptures with the TRAN2 program, pursued a parallel practice of plotter drawing while teaching at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Works from his Ribbon Series — compositions of colored, ribbon-like lines produced on a Calcomp four-color drum plotter driven by a CDC Cyber 175 mainframe — were exhibited at the SIGGRAPH '82 Art Show, and examples are held by the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Spencer Museum of Art. This 1983 drawing, numbered 007, continues the series.
