Zancan

Zancan is responsible for my whole fxhash obsession. I saw him speak at Art Matr, a gallery in Brooklyn, when he launched his Charcoal Seeds series — and after hearing him talk I went straight to fxhash and started acquiring plottable NFT artworks; I haven't stopped. He's visited for Plotterfiles too. Zancan is the artist name of Michaël Zancan, a French generative artist from Bordeaux. He has worked for decades as both a painter and programmer, bringing the sensibility of oil painting — composition, color, symbolism, density, and atmosphere — into code-based systems. His work is often described as "figurative-generative," using mathematics and algorithms to create intricate botanical forms, landscapes, and symbolic environments that challenge the idea that generative art must be minimal or rigid. Zancan's digital works and pen-plotter drawings are especially known for their relationship to nature: tangled vegetation, gardens, ruins, branches, wild growth, and organic abundance become ways to think about resilience, environmental fragility, technology, and the bond between humans and the living world.
