Yvaral

Yvaral was Jean-Pierre Vasarely (1934–2002), son of Victor and an op-art force in his own right: co-founder of GRAV, the Paris collective that made kinetic and participatory art a movement in the 1960s, and the man who coined "art numérique" in 1975 — art built by numerical rule and algorithm, decades before the term meant pixels. His quantified portraits ran Marilyn, the Mona Lisa, Dalí, and Lincoln through mathematical grids; computers eventually helped with the processing, but the finished works stayed hand-painted. Gold medals at San Marino (1963, with GRAV) and the New Delhi and Alexandria triennales (1971).
