White Noise

White Noise formed in London in 1968: David Vorhaus, an American-born bassist-physicist, with BBC Radiophonic Workshop moonlighters Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson. An Electric Storm (Island, 1969) combined painstaking tape manipulation with the EMS VCS3 — the first British synthesizer — flopped commercially, and became a landmark of British electronica. (Derbyshire, often miscredited as the Doctor Who theme's composer, was its electronic realizer; Ron Grainer wrote it.)
