Tyler Hobbs

Tyler Hobbs (b. 1987) is the Austin artist whose Fidenza — 999 flow-field compositions released through Art Blocks in June 2021 — became a landmark of long-form generative art. He studied computer science at the University of Texas at Austin and spent seven years as a database-company software engineer while developing the algorithmic drawing practice, and the essays explaining it, that made him generative art's most legible ambassador. His work crosses freely between screen and matter: pen-plotted drawings, hand-finished paintings of QQL outputs (the collaborative algorithm he built with Dandelion Wist), shows at Unit London and Pace, and works in LACMA and SFMOMA. In 2026 he organized Please Respond, a ten-artist exquisite-corpse chain that he opened himself — writing his code tight, clean, and extensible so the nine artists after him would have something worth taking apart.
