Silver Apples

Silver Apples formed in New York in 1967: Simeon Coxe III (1938–2020) playing "the Simeon" — a homemade rig of nine audio oscillators and eighty-six manual controls driven by telegraph keys and pedals — with drummer Danny Taylor (d. 2005). The 1968 debut made them electronic-rock pioneers, ancestors to Suicide, Stereolab, and Portishead; the 1970 collapse came not from creative differences but from a Pan Am lawsuit over an album cover.
