Sander Liessem

German

Sander Liessem spends his days knee-deep in brains and code — a postdoctoral neuroscientist at the University of Würzburg, studying insect nervous systems — and his art grew straight out of that: digital vector sketches, sometimes seeded with data from his own research, sent to a Bantam Tools NextDraw A1 plotter or carved as linocuts and pulled on a hand press. He took his PhD in Cologne in 2020 and has run the two practices in parallel since, every series a limited edition of sixty-six, replotted on demand with slight variation — the scientist's honesty about what a machine edition actually is.
