Roland Kayn
German · 1933–2011
Roland Kayn (1933–2011) composed what he called cybernetic music: self-organizing electronic processes set in motion and allowed to run, systems theory in place of the composer's hand. He worked at the Institute of Sonology from 1970 and lived in the Netherlands until his death; Simultan (1977), a three-LP set on Colosseum, was among his first major releases. Most of his vast output stayed unreleased in his lifetime — his estate began a decades-long release program in 2020.
