Piter Pasma is a Dutch generative artist based in Groningen whose work explores the expressive potential of mathematics, algorithms, and computation. Combining technical precision with a fascination for complexity and emergence, he creates generative systems that produce richly detailed visual worlds ranging from intricate plotter drawings to photorealistic digital sculptures. His practice is driven by the belief that elegant code can reveal unexpected forms and hidden structures, transforming abstract mathematical ideas into compelling visual experiences. Pasma began programming at the age of nine and developed his technical foundation through the demoscene of the late 1990s, an international community dedicated to creating highly optimized audiovisual works under extreme programming constraints. This experience fostered his deep understanding of mathematics, computer graphics, and algorithmic efficiency, earning him multiple awards for real-time audiovisual productions written in fewer than four kilobytes of code. Today, he continues to build custom software and mathematical frameworks that investigate randomness, procedural generation, ray tracing, signed distance functions, and three-dimensional geometry. Working across digital and physical media, Pasma is recognized for both his long-form generative projects and unique algorithmic compositions. His celebrated works, including Skulptuur, Universal Rayhatcher, and *Industrial Devolution*, demonstrate an exceptional ability to generate complex spatial environments and sculptural forms from concise mathematical instructions. While many of his works are rendered digitally, he also produces plotter-based drawings and openly shares technical innovations with the broader generative art community. Beyond his own artistic practice, Pasma has played a significant role in fostering contemporary generative art. He served as lead organizer of Genuary, the annual international creative coding event that invites thousands of artists to produce daily generative artworks inspired by algorithmic prompts. A strong advocate for open knowledge and collaboration, he regularly publishes technical essays, releases software tools, and mentors fellow artists, making him one of the most influential creative coders of his generation. Pasma's work has been exhibited internationally through platforms including Art Blocks, Feral File, Verse, fx(hash), and numerous digital art exhibitions and collections. Widely admired for both his artistic vision and technical mastery, he continues to push the boundaries of generative art, demonstrating how mathematics, code, and computation can become powerful tools for aesthetic discovery and creative expression.
