The Bre Pettis Collection of Computer Art

Pietro Grossi

Pietro Grossi (1917–2002) spent thirty years as first cellist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino orchestra before becoming Italy's computer-music pioneer: he founded the S 2F M electronic studio in Florence (1963), held Italy's first electronic-music professorship (1965), and from 1967 ran formal computer-music experiments at CNUCE/CNR in Pisa, where the 1972 Computer Music LP's works were realized. In the 1980s he turned the same instincts to generative visual art he called HomeArt.
