Peter Vogel
1937–2017
Peter Vogel (1937–2017) was a German artist based in Freiburg, known for interactive cybernetic sound sculptures — exposed electronic circuits of wire, resistors, speakers, and photocells that respond to viewers' shadows, movements, and sounds. Trained in physics and influenced by cybernetics and the neurophysiologist W. Grey Walter, he worked in brain research and medical-device development at Hoffmann-La Roche before turning to electronic sound sculpture from 1969, producing these works for more than four decades. I really like "dead bug" style soldering, and that is exactly what these are — components soldered in mid-air on their own wire armature, with nothing hidden.
