Margot Lovejoy (1930–2019) wrote the book on electronic art — Digital Currents: Art in the Electronic Age — and lived it too: a Canadian-born printmaker who moved through photography into video, installation, and net art, becoming the first tenured woman in SUNY Purchase's printmaking department and a 1987 Guggenheim fellow along the way. The Whitney commissioned and holds Turns (2001, shown in the 2002 Biennial); the Walker holds Parthenia (1996), her web memorial on domestic violence. Historian and practitioner in one body — exactly the bridge this collection is about.
