KATSU
American
KATSU is a pseudonymous graffiti artist — Parsons BFA, F.A.T. Lab and Eyebeam fellow — who has spent decades finding new machines for an old crime. Active since the late 1990s under a dripping-skull tag, he pioneered hacked fire-extinguisher fill-ins that cover whole facades, debuted a spray-can drone on canvas in 2014, and in the early hours of April 29, 2015, committed the first major act of drone vandalism: a red scribble across Kendall Jenner's face on a six-story Calvin Klein billboard in SoHo. His AI Criminals (2017) generated mugshots of people who never existed; his 2021 SuperRare drops sold the drone's flight itself. He works between New York and San Francisco.
