John Lennon & Yoko Ono

Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins was made in one overnight session at Lennon's home studio in May 1968 — tape loops, piano, organ, sound effects, Yoko Ono's ad-lib vocals: musique concrète, not songs — and released that November after EMI refused to touch it, retailers selling the infamous cover in brown paper bags. It earns its place on this shelf as the moment two of the most famous people alive put out a tape-experiment record.
