James Merrill
James Merrill, who works as lostpixels, is a down-to-earth, prolific artist who got his start on DeviantArt coding up art projects and hit his stride in the NFT era of generative art. He writes code in a 150-year-old Vermont farmhouse, aiming to render chaos with the perfection of mathematics: up through Flash and Newgrounds in the early 2000s, generative since 2018, with work everywhere from a Times Square display (Liquid Galaxies, 2021) to Art Blocks Curated (ORI, 2022; BUSY, 2025), Unit London, Highlight's Onchain Summer, and Casey Reas' -GRAPH exhibition on Feral File. The plots come from the same programs as the tokens: thousands of lines of JavaScript, drawn out in fine-tipped pens.
