Golan Levin

Golan Levin (b. 1972) is an OG of the creative web, and I've admired his work forever. He designed his own BS at MIT, took his MS in John Maeda's Aesthetics and Computation Group at the Media Lab, worked as an interface designer at Interval Research, and was an Eyebeam resident before landing at Carnegie Mellon in 2004, where he is professor of electronic art and directed the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry for more than a decade. These days he runs the Drawing with Machines course in Pittsburgh, inspiring the next generation to think linearly — as drawing technicians and programmers making up new futures — with the syllabus living openly on GitHub. His own Cytographia generates imaginary biology, exportable as SVG expressly so it can be drawn in ink.
