Gene Roddenberry (1921–1991) was the American television writer and producer who created Star Trek, which first aired in 1966. A former US Army Air Forces pilot and Los Angeles police officer before he wrote for television, he built a series whose premise — that technology and curiosity might make a better future rather than a worse one — shaped how several generations imagined computers, space travel and machines that talk back. The record here, Inside Star Trek (1976), is his own spoken-word account of the series.
