Daphne Oram

Daphne Oram (1925–2003) co-founded the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1958 as its first studio manager — and left within a year to pursue her own machine: Oramics, which synthesized sound from shapes drawn on 35mm film, built with engineer Graham Wrench. Listen, Move and Dance (HMV, 1962, with Vera Gray) put her "Electronic Sound Patterns" on a children's educational record, and her uncredited sounds reached The Innocents and Dr. No. Drawn sound, decades before anyone said "generative."
