Charles Dodge

Charles Dodge (b. 1942, Ames, Iowa) is a leading pioneer of digital computer-music composition. Earth's Magnetic Field (1970) mapped a year of geomagnetic-index data to sound; Speech Songs (1972, made with Bell Labs speech-synthesis software) is among the first musical uses of synthetic speech; and his Cascando (composed 1978, released on LP 1983) resynthesizes an analyzed voice along a composed pitch line for Beckett's radio play. He taught at Columbia and founded Brooklyn College's Center for Computer Music in 1977.
