B.E. AKA Beverley Edwards

Beverley Edwards (1934–2021), who signed her work B.E., was born Beverley Ann Quillian in Atlanta and became a fixture of Cape Cod art after moving there in 1959: more than forty-five years teaching drawing, painting, printmaking, and papermaking; president of the Falmouth Artists Guild (1973); museum school director at Brockton's Fuller Museum (1972–84); founder and first president of the Monotype Guild of New England (1985). Her range was enormous — neon and fluorescent light sculptures, helium-inflated sky sculptures, minimalist prints, large abstractions, the botanical monotypes of her Black Florilegium, underwater fish paintings, and charcoal portraits of country musicians — all in a style she called "poetic realism." Her monotype Black Lily took Best in Show at the Cahoon Museum in 1991. Her son was one of my employees.
